This gorgeous little calf just begged to painted, and in the spirit of exploring a bolder, less detailed, more expressive style I have painted this. It definitely is fun to not be a slave to create every hair as realistic as possible, but I think I will keep playing and pushing tthrough expressionism and towards abstract maybe.

This tiger painting is the first piece of work I completed in 2012 after taking a fairly long break…sometimes the creativity is elusive and just can’t be captured to sit down and create something. Unfortunately having people not only copy your work, but steal it and claim it as their own can have that affect on you. Painting this piece did remind me just how much I enjoy the process but also how much I would really like to loosen up and become much more adventurous with my artwork.

Original colour pencil painting on drafting film of our cat “Tara”. The look on her face is priceless and a very typical ‘Tara’ look. Tara is not your average friendly physically affectionate cat, and for good reason. Tara and her litter mates were dumped in the bush as kittens when they were 6-8 weeks old, and eight years later she still hasn’t totally overcome her mistrust of humans.
Tara is quite attached to our family in her own way, she is very timid, dosn’t like to be touched or picked up. It has taken a lot of patience and gentle persistence and as long as we don’t push her to do anything she dosn’t want to do, she seems to be quite happy being close to us without being a lap cat.
