New Look | New Art Gift Shop

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

It was definitely time for a facelift for the old blog so the new design is finally online, just in time to celebrate the arrival of my new gift shop at Zazzle.  We have selected Zazzle for printing products, prints and giftware  for a number of reasons, primarily the high quality of Zazzle products which are endorsde and used by world famous brands such as Hallmark, officially licensed Star Wars and Disney, Discovery Channel, Animal PlanetMythbusters, and many more.  So this means that products featuring selected reproductions of my artwork are in very good company!

Aside from that, the Zazzle Promise is the sort of thing that I personally take a lot of notice of when purchasing anything from an online store, and I would expect nothing less for customers purchasing products featuring my artwork.  The Zazzle promise means that:

  • Your satisfaction is Zazzle’s Top Priority. If you are not satisfied for any reason with the final product, you may return your purchase for a replacement or refund within 30 days of receipt.
  • Your information is secure – Zazzle SSL secured servers are tested daily to ensure your data will arrive privately and unaltered.
  • Zazzle produces products on demand and ships very quickly! Production and shipping is within 24 hours for everything but a few products that take slightly longer than 24 hours to produce and ship.
  • And finally a great range of products and gift lines to feature my art, many that you can customise to suit your own preference!

Please click the link below to visit the new gift shop and let me know what you think!  New artwork is being added daily and if you would like to be notified of new additions, simply subscribe to this blog, follow me on Twitter or fan me on Facebook

Meerkat | Wildlife Painting

"The Sentry" Meerkat Portrait painting by Michelle Wrighton

I created this digital painting fom a photograph that I took of one of the Meerkats at the zoo, but I thought he needed to be put back into the wild, so painted a more natural background environment for him to live in:)  This is another one of the first digital smudge paintings that I did, but I had to leave it for a while as I had removed the background and couldn’t work out to put a layer in behind him.  LOL in the end I just painted the background around him and then blended the edges of his fur in with the background.  I know most digital artists get the most of the program they use by createing layers for each element that they paint, but I find it much easier just to paint from the background forwards, just like I do when painting with real paints on real canvas!

“The Sentry” is available to buy as greeting cards, matted, laminated, mounted, canvas and framed prints: Purchase “The Sentry”

Basset Hound on Black

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Well they say good things come to those who wait, and every cloud has a silver lining and both of these are probably true at the moment. LOL I seem to have trying to find time to get my studio re-arranged and organized for a couple of years and its finally nearly done, thanks (I guess?) at least in part to the flood damage and total house upheaval we had earlier this year!

So while being ill and not being able to do much of anything else at the moment, I have gone through my personal collection in my art folders and have decided to part with some of my art pieces that have not previously been offered for sale – I would rather have them being enjoyed by someone else and helping out a dog in need rather than remaining in my folio!

This profile portrait of a soulful looking tan & white Basset Hound was completed on black Windsor and Newton Acid Free paper using artist quality colour pencils. Created 2005, first time offered for sale. Paper size: 11″x14″ Image size: 8″x8″ approx. $75.00 (includes postage).

Final: We Three Kings Part II – Lion

Monday, August 6th, 2007

I nearly forgot to post an update with the final of my lion, so here he is, Part II of “We Three Kings”, 8″x8″, artist colour pencil on drafting film.

I’m not surprised that more and more colour pencil artists are starting to use drafting film for their work. I am now absolutely convinced that drafting film is the perfect support for use with colour pencils, at least with my style and technique. It is definitely not easy to use initially, and it handles totally different to any other support that I have worked with (it dosn’t take as many layers so you really have to make each mark count!), but the results as definitely worth it, so I will be doing a lot more work on film in the future!

My First ACEO’s posted on Ebay & new Ebay Store

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Well I’ve gone and done it, it’s taken me most of last night and today but I have successfully managed to create and Ebay Store for myself! I can’t believe it has taken so long but I have added a couple of pieces of jewellery and have finally posted some auctions for the first lot of ACEO’s that I have ever offered for sale.

Amongst this first lot is the ones shown below – Bronson, the Golden Retriever, Tao the Siamese kitten, Percival Pelican, River Reflections as well as a Fluffy Teddy bear and a frangipani. I have a few more to add in the next couple of days and a rather large quantity of jewellery to add to the store. That will be an ongoing project for a while seeing as I have yet to take photos of most of it!

If you would like to see the ACEO’s and art jewellery in my Ebay Store PLEASE CLICK HERE

Cheers

My First ever blog entry:)

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

Yay for me, I’ve finally joined the rest of the world and started my own blog. LOL, I really have NO idea what I am doing, but I guess I’ll learn as I go along, right? I’m not sure that I can manage to update daily (probably don’t have that much of interest happening in my life on a daily basis), but I think I can manage acouple of entries a week:)

Actually, one of the reasons that I have finally created a blog is to keep a bit of a diary on my artwork, not so much the pet portrait commissions that I do, but on my personal choice artwork. Not only a visual diary, but also as a bit of a record of the thoughts and emotions that go into creating an artwork. I know that many artists who work by commission end up loosing their enjoyment of their art because it becomes a job just like any other, so I am setting myself a personal challenge to produce at least two pieces just for me every month. I’d love to be able to do more, but my style is highly detailed, realistic and very time consuming, so two pieces is a realistic goal at least for the rest of this year.

On the other hand, I’m determined to teach myself how to paint with acrylics and pastels, both of which should be much quicker than my main mediums, graphite and colour pencils (no, not the kind you had in primary school!). So when the kids go back to school in February and I have a little bit more time, I’m might just up the challenge to one piece per week. LOL – I don’t think I will ever be one of these artists who can create a painting in a couple of hours, unless of course I start going abstract!

But for now, I guess I should have a bit of a wander around and work out how to set this whole blog thing up so it looks halfway decent!

Cheers
