This is a small acrylic painting of Gilley, a rescue Greyhound dog from the UK. Greyhounds have the most beautiful, big, liquid, expressive eyes that are an absolute joy to paint. As a breed, Greyhounds have such a regal bearing that the deep purple background seemed appropriate for Gilley’s painting
These smaller paintings are very enjoyable to do, although this one is still quite detailed, I am really trying to loosen up and capture the essence of the animal without being totally pre-occupied with capturing every last detail!
The painting is continued on all four edges and is ready to hang. “Royalty” is available on merchandise and prints, but this is the first time this original painting from my personal collection has been offered for sale.

I guess some things are just meant to be. We were not looking for another dog. At all. We already have two. But as we are all besotted with Taj, hubby and I had joked that if a little white faced girl border collie needed a good home, that would be the only 3rd addition we would think about it.
Well guess what? In a very round about way, through my sister who actually has Siberian Huskies and a Koolie and has recently moved to the country, we have now adopted another Border collie, and yes she is a little girl with a white face! Her name was Jarrah, which we loved as our block is full of Jarrah trees, but once we got her home, it didn’t seem to suit her as she is small and petite, so hubby has named her Trinity (yup, he’s a matrix fan, plus she is canine-kid number three, and she has 3 black spots on her face).
Isn’t she cute? Taj is thrilled to have a baby sister. On the other hand, Tia the ice queen refuses to acknowledge her existance.
Where has this year gone? I can’t believe that it is nearly Christmas already and I am definitely not going to look at the last date that I updated this blog, so instead I will just share my latest piece, a pure pastel pet portrait painting on velour paper of a gorgeous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
This is the first time that I have used the German made Hahnemuhle velour pastel paper and I will definitely be using it again, it creates an incredible softness to the artwork that is particularly suited to animal portraiture.
