Child Portrait Photography | South West Photography

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Its hard to believe its nearly the middle of the year already, where does the time go?

I have recently decided to expand my photography business to include people portraits – and in particular children’s portraiture. Of course, as with any new endeavour, its a huge learning curve!

I am really enjoying the challenge, not only the technical side of the photography, but the biggest thing is engaging and interacting with the subject, and when they are young toddlers that you have never met before, that can be a really challenging task indeed!

So this week I have had my first two photo session with a gorgeous two year old boy and a lovely little three year old girl. Both were so well behaved and although unrelated both had the most gorgeous blue eyes, and there parents have graciously allowed me to use the photos in my portfolio, so I can post a few here in my blog.

At some stage in the not too distant future, I will have a section for portraits on my http://www.southwestphotography.com.au website as it is significantly different to the event photography that I do, but until then I will just be posting some images here from time to time.

In the meantime, I am still building my portfolio and would love to hear from anyone in the Perth area interested in having a photography session (free session fee for areas 20 minutes from myhome!).

Naval Base Horse Beach Photos | South West Photography

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

There is nothing better on a hot summer’s day than taking the ponies for a swim down the beach!  Ok, well I didn’t take my horse, but I did take my camera and got some very lovely shots!

Black and tan Long haired Dachshund dog art

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

I am thoroughly enjoying working with this velour paper with my pastels and I am really pleased with how this portrait of Marcus, a Long Haired Dachshund has turned out. I can see that my pastels and this velour support and quickly going to become my favourite medium for working in.

I couldn’t help myself, after finishing this one I have finally started a portrait of my own dog Tia, she is a black Shar-Pei and it is proving to be a very interesting challenge creating black wrinkles that look realistic! I will add a blog entry with her portrait when it is finished.

Horse & cat “In The Night”, German Shepherd & Gibbon & a Galah

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

I’ve managed to do the next two of the “In The Night” ACEO series, #2 is a chestnut stallion “Trojan In The Night” and #3 is another cat (yes I have a real big thing for cats at the moment:) “Boo In The Night”.

Here are a couple more, “Kaiser” A German Shepherd Dog. I’m really pleased how this turned out, especially as the eyes are only about 3mm in size!

A Pink and Grey Galah (a common Australian native bird). I tried a looser more painterly approach with this one, which was created as part of an International Artists swap.

And a Gibbon (a primate) – when I saw the reference photo for this one I couldn’t resist the priceless look on his face. I havn’t quite decided what to do with this one, but need to come up with a suitable title first.

As well as getting these ACEO’s done, I’ve also been able to get everything uploaded to the new gallery on my website, it looks much better now, and should be fairly easy for people to navigate.

And now its back to work:)
