Farm Life – A Baby is Born!

Dexter Calf

Long time blog readers might remember that we had to sell most of our cows and calves at the beginning of year when my husband was in hospital.  It was a tough call at the time as I really needed to reduce the farm work, but I decided to keep our jersey X steer Bangers and our sweet little black Dexter cow Matilda.

Turns out that was a great decision, because this week the heifer fairy delivered this gorgeous little girl!  Mum and baby are doing fine and I am contemplating bringing Matilda up to the house for milking duties.  Dexter milk is not as rich and creamy as jersey cow milk, and certainly not as plentiful, but it is still very tasty and beats the stuff we are currently buying at the supermarket.

I agree, she is absolutely freakin’ ADORABLE!!! (So cute and adorable that I am sure you will excuse my flood of baby cow pictures in this blog post:) Now I honestly thought Holly’s calf, Sausage was cute, but this little girl is just the bomb!

We haven’t named her yet, so if anyone has any suggestions that would suit this bundle of sweetness please let me know!
